As a Dallas SEO consultant, I have seen many small to medium businesses struggle trying to keep up with the "big boys" in SEO. While SEO can be a difficult thing to learn, it doesn't have to stop you in your tracks when building your own website. In these ebooks, the authors will show you the importance of your page set-up so that it looks favorable to the search engine spiders and your visitors. Search engine optimization is a section of website construction that is constantly debated upon. Just visit any SEO forum and see the endless discussions about what is most important when trying to get favorable SE rankings. Priority: Visitors One reason that there is so much debate over SEO is the simple fact that not everybody thinks about their visitors and what they want. How much more basic than that can you get than that? Isn't the point of the internet giving surfers information? Let's think about this for a second, Google's job is what? To make sure that they give the searchee the absolute best results for their search. Google has become recognized as the leader in search engines, large in part because of it's success in getting the relevant results. So why then would it make sense to try and "fool" the SEs by trying to go around the visitor and only pleasing the SEs? I say "embrace your visitor!" In doing so, they will embrace you back. Search engine spiders are becoming smarter everyday. Tricks and blackhat techniques used by some "webmasters" to increase pagerank will only last for so long (Make Your links Work! pg 5). Don't get me wrong though, there are free and paid services that really do help with page listing, website submission, etc. Unfortunately, it can be very difficult to find a service that isn't only interested in your greenbacks. If you plan on having a long-lasting successful website, then don't set yourself up for failure in the beginning. Create a website with the purpose of being informative, or providing a helpful service or product. If you have your visitors in the front of your mind while building your site, they will eventually see that and they will reward you. So will the search engine spiders.
Link Building and Anchor Text Link building is one of the best ways to help raise your value in the search engines (Make Your Link Work! pg 36). The more links you have coming into your site, particularly from highly ranked sites and sites related to your industry or niche, the higher you'll end up ranking. However, just getting links is only half of the battle. The other piece of the puzzle, and it's amazingly important when you want to get targeted traffic, is that the links that come into your site contain anchor text for the words and phrases you're trying to rank for. The anchor text in a link is simply the words that are clickable. With the right anchor text, you can immediately align specific pages of your site with specific terms. A link is somewhat like a street sign on a road that you may be driving down. It's pointing out not just that there is a road that you can go down, it's telling you what that road is, whether it's Main Street or Broadway. The anchor text tells the search engines the exact same thing. Those two goals are the bottom line. That's the backbone of SEO, it's just making those two things come together that's the hard part. That's where these authors come in. |
