Let's Meet Bob... Bob has a passion for electronics. Everything from cameras, to computers, to the biggest and baddest TVs out there. Well guess what, so does Best Buy. After a little keyword research, Bob comes to the conclusion that he can't be as big as Best Buy on his budget (big surprise there). So does this mean that Bob can't make a website about electronics? No way. Bob decides to narrow his area of expertise, or niche. He just so happens to know more about computers than any other electronic device, so he gets the idea in his head to make his site about everything to do with computers. He's starting to make progress...but then he starts thinking about how many other websites there are out there that have to do with computers. "What is going to make a visitor come to my site when they can go to the computer section of BestBuy.com?" Bob thinks to himself. "I have to dive deeper and get more detailed" he says. With all Bob knows about computers, he knows the most about Toshiba's line of Satellite laptops. "Bingo!" he says. "Now I'm onto something."
Bob's next step is to check his idea with different keyword tools to see if the supply/demand ratio is a favorable one. Obviously, if the popularity of a particular topic (i.e. electronics) is too high, his monetization will suffer. On the flip side, if his demand is too low, Bob knows he won't get any visitors to his site. Bob's Keywords Now, just because Bob finds a potentially profitable niche doesn't mean that he needs to choose that topic for his website. Bob knows that one of the most important things to remember about choosing a topic for a website is to make sure that it's a subject he genuinely enjoys. He also realizes that a successful website is constantly changing, and because of this, he will always have to be adding quality content for his visitors. He can't just take the first good keywords that he comes across, and expect them to work with his particular niche. For example, just because keywords relating to Kobe Beef likely have great profitability, doesn't make the subject a good niche at all for a vegetarian. Likewise, it probably wouldn't be the best idea to build a travel website about a place you have never been before. You have to be knowledgeable about your topic, or at the very least, have a passion for learning more about it. Pick a topic that won't cause you to get discouraged when you have a case of writer's block (because you will, trust me). Bob's Happy Ending Search Volume, CPC, and competition, were all factors that Bob to into consideration during his research. Because of his in-depth niche research, many of Bob's web pages get high SERPs (search engine results page). Way to go Bob! I can say from experience that not doing proper niche research can get real bad, real quick. Keyword research services are one thing that you should give some thought to purchasing. The good ones are worth every penny in the long run. More information on the resources that Bob used can be found in the ebooks on the next page.
