The concept of website design is simple: Make your site user-friendly. The easier your visitors can navigate around your site is obviously going to make it more likely that they will stay longer. Increased pageviews, lower bounce rate, and even conversion rates are all things directly related to easy page navigation. But, navigation is one thing. Making your site "pretty" is totally another.
The internet is made up of different languages and code, making it possible to be able to see pictures, video, and even simple text. If you need a real life example of this, right click and select "view page source". All the code that you see after is a result of someone's work building a webpage. Don't let that intimidate you though. Depending on what kind of website you plan on designing, you might not have to learn all of that...yet.
There are two kinds of sites:Static sites don't change at all. The end-user(YOU)doesn't have any control over changing any of the content.
Dynamic sites are the opposite. The end-user can have a significant amount control over things. For example, the site may have certain changeable settings like time, weather, or the ability to sign users in/out.
From that, you might be able to tell what your website is going to require, and what kind of things you might need to learn. On the flip side, a great imagination is also needed to build a website. Nobody is going to take interest in your site if it's boring and plain. So even if you are unfamiliar with the developmental stages, you are ahead of the curve if you have creativity.
In an effort to stay on track, here are some links that might help you optimize you site as you build it.
In this topic section of ebooks, you will hear words like HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The authors will show you what they mean.
