The ebooks in this section will help answer the question "What is affiliate marketing?" Not only will you learn what it is, but you will learn from the authors their techniques for making money online with this method. They cover preselling, Adsense optimization, tracking visitors clicks, Adsense tricks, and much more.
Affiliate Marketing Basics
You're going to have four key players: The publisher (that's you), the networks, merchants, and your visitors. Each one of these participants are just as important as the other.
Let's say that your website is going to cover various Asian recipes. One way you might monetize is selling recipe books to your visitors. You would sign up to be an affiliate with one of the previously mentioned networks. After you have signed up, you will have the option of putting an ad for an Asian recipe book on your website.
When the ad is posted on your website (usually a picture of said product) it will take your visitors to your networks sale page that will then try to make a sale for the book. If your visitor makes a purchase, you get a commission as an affiliate.
It doesn't have to stop there. You could advertise Asian cooking utensils, or even an apron to wear while cooking. Whatever your niche, you can be almost certain that there is something out there to earn a commission from by promoting.
Affiliate Programs
So who enables the $$$ to appear? They didn't just magically find their way into your bank account did they? No. They are the affiliate programs that act as the platform where this equation takes place. Some of these networks include Google Adsense, Amazon, Clickbank, and Shopzilla.Because of its ease of use, Google Adsense is a very popular network for new and experienced webmasters alike (Build An Adsense Empire pg 4). But, each affiliate program has its pros and cons.
For instance, Adsense affiliates sometimes have to wait long periods of time before they are approved. Even when they are approved, they really have to watch their P's and Q's when it comes to violating Google's Terms of Service.
Google is notorious for kicking people out of the program with no remorse or forgiveness. In Google's defense, this usually is a direct result of the publisher doing something malicious in the first place.
A popular complaint of Clickbank affiliates is the excess of fees imposed upon them. But, Clickbank has SO many things to promote, it's easy to find a niche related product to sell.
Don't Want to Promote Anything?
If promoting products isn't something that you would be interested in, you can always sign up for the Adsense Program. This technique is a popular one, particularly with information websites.
You have without a doubt seen links that say "Google Ads" in a corner of the ad right? These are Adsense ads. It's very popular with affiliate marketers because of it's ease of use and potential. You copy and paste the code on various pages of your website, and you get a cut every time your visitor clicks on an Adsense ad.
With any luck, this page has answered some of your questions. The authors in this section will go into much greater depth and answer your question, "What is Affiliate Marketing?" Check out what they have to say on the topic.
